Expressing Creativity and Emotions Through Fluid Art
For the Seasons
This is my interpretation of the four seasons. I always loved Christmas cards and new year calendars that used the theme of the seasons. Winter is the black and white. I LOVE working with black and white so much. This is a 14x14 galvanized steel sheet from a Home Depot back in February 2019. Spring is somewhat pastel coloring on a 12” diameter canvas. Summer and Autumn are both 8x8 canvas. All are held to the 20-guage galvanized steel 24x36 with magnets. Winter is surrounded by ice with some spots of dirty snow. Spring & Summer have some bright colors and shades of blue throughout, giving a floating-in-space intent. I created 4 discrepancies here among the pieces.
Iris Rock Wall Garden
I decided to work on a tribute to Van Gough after I saw the Immersive Van Gough Exhibit with my good friend Claudia in August of 2021 at the Amoeba Music Building in Los Angeles. The 3 canvases with purple represent the iris flower that Van Gough felt so deserving of attention… and so do I. Such a beautiful, unusual bloom. The center purple is a 12x12 canvas, with the top right and bottom left a 10x10 canvas. The 3 green canvases represent foliage. The greens are all 5x7, 2 canvas and 1 canvas board. The discrepancy items are various green pieces bringing foliage to mind, then various purple shades tying into the iris theme, and up to the top where we have sky colors of blues and grays. The 3” glass cabochons are showing actual Van Gogh iris works. The outside border is composed of stones hence the name Iris Rock Wall Garden. The metal is 20-gauge galvanized steel 24x36. This work contains 4 discrepancies.
Magnetic Vinyl Calendars
Although the calendars did not use acrylic paint, they do contain a discrepancy. I use Excel to create the file. I found searching online a print company in Minnesota called Banners.com. They have always been great, helping me with the printing and sizing. I have done a long-stacked month format. Now I like the more landscape isolating the quarters of the year. These two examples use rainbow colors. Sometimes I use shades of blue or green and do an umbra effect. The possibilities are endless.
Both measure 14” X 24”.
Discrepancy Defined
Here are two works I put together years ago when just beginning to play with the idea of creating a discrepancy when using “negative space fillers” to try and enhance the simplicity of the acrylic pour. As you can see, there is still a great deal of negative space to these. That’s OK. Later, I began to add more fillers and add more discrepancies. But this is a good visual definition of how & what I am calling Discrepancy Art. My discrepancies will NEVER be found within the acrylic. Never.
